Step 1. Excavation and Base Installation
Excavate unsuitable, unstable or unconsolidated subgrade material and compact the area which has been cleared. Backfill and level with dense graded aggregate suitable for base material (typically four (4) to six (6) inches of compacted base for light vehicular and pedestrian traffic) or as otherwise directed by Site Engineer/Architect/Landscape Architect. Edge restraints may be installed prior to or after the installation of the paving field. Concrete or plastic edging may be used.

Step 2. Sand Bed Preparation
Place bedding of coarse washed sand conforming to the grading requirements of ASTM C-33 to a maximum uniform depth of 1“– 1½” (25-38mm) screened to the grade and profile required.

Step 3. Laying Stones
Install pavers with joints of maximum 1⁄16“(3mm).

Step 4. Cutting Stones
Where required, cut pavers with an approved cutting device to fit accurately, neatly and without damaged edges.

Step 5. Compaction
Tamp pavers with a plate compactor, uniformly level, true to grade and free of movement.

Step 6. Spread Sand
Spread sand with the push broom to 1⁄8” thickness over the entire paving area. Allow sand to dry completely.

Make one more pass with plate compactor to fill joints with sand

With the Stamped Concrete, there are many things that could factor into your final results such as the powdered dye and the concrete not being thoroughly mixed together. It is also possible to get a bad batch of concrete which would result in a discolored pavement. With Brick Pavers, you can always get a perfect match even many years later if you decide to add to your existing project. With the Stamped Concrete, matches are impossible. With Brick Pavers, if it is necessary you have a product that is repairable without noticing any repairs were made. With Stamped Concrete, there ARE NO guarantees and once that cement cracks there are no repair methods. With Brick Pavers, when creating elevated patios you will have a beautiful border contrasting with a natural stone or block retaining wall. With the Stamped Concrete, you will have a cement face that is prepared to look like one block. With Brick Pavers, you will have a product that is more durable and flexible than any other product because they are small individual pieces enabling them to be able to move with the climate unlike Stamped Concrete which is poured in big slabs which poses a problem when the frost gets underneath and shifts the concrete causing it to buckle and crack.
The Sub grade base underneath the Brick Pavers is the most crucial element to the longevity of our product. There are many proper depths required to be excavated and thoroughly compacted in order to assure a quality job that will be able to withstand cold winters or the weight of vehicles.

No, sealing your brick is not necessary, it is the preference of the customer. If you do decide to seal your brick you should wait at least 3 months to allow the sand between the joints of the pavers to be thoroughly swept in.
The biggest benefit is that the sealer will harden the sand in between the joints of the brick so that the sand does not wash out, and it will also guarantee no growth between the joints. Another benefit of the sealer is that it will enhance the colors of the brick by giving them a glossy wet look.
If you use a good product and do a thorough job you will only have to seal the brick every 2 to 3 years.
Yes, there is a new product sold now called PolyMeric Sand that you can sweep in between the joints of the pavers and by adding water to this sand it creates a concrete-hard joint.
Pavers can be plowed and shoveled just like asphalt or concrete. A plow with a rubber edge is recommended. Also, do not melt the ice with salt, instead use a salt free sand.

As long as the concrete is in good condition with no cracks you can go over the top of the existing concrete. As a matter of fact, this is a much better scenario because you never know what kind of debris lies underneath an existing porch.
